Handcrafted Wands by Matt Boothroyd, Dryad’s Fingers

When I was approached by craftsman Matt Boothroyd I knew immediately that these wands were something special and I am delighted he chose me as one of his stockists.

Each one is unique, full of character, and made with such deep care and respect for nature. These aren’t just beautiful objects, they are magical tools, carrying the story of the tree they came from and the land they grew on.

About the Crafter – Matt Boothroyd, Dryad’s Fingers

Matt has been handcrafting wands from our native Celtic trees for over 18 years. Working under the name Dryad’s Fingers, he creates each wand as a unique, characterful piece infused with respect for both tradition and nature.

Based in the West Country, Matt gathers wood from the moors, woodlands, and coasts of Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall. He honours the trees and the land by harvesting with care, never taking too much, and always giving back. Sometimes this means leaving offerings, other times it’s by litter-picking the area – often bringing home more rubbish than wood as a thank-you to Mother Nature.

For those familiar with the Ogham – the ancient Celtic tree alphabet – you’ll know that each tree has its own letter, symbolism, and magical properties. Matt works closely with this tradition, carefully selecting woods that carry both their natural and spiritual essence into the finished wand.

The Crafting Process

Each wand is hand-shaped, not turned on a lathe, allowing the natural beauty and character of the wood to shine through.

  • Wood Selection: Matt prefers to work with fallen branches but will occasionally harvest from live trees, taking only what is needed and with deep respect.
  • Seasoning the Wood: Once gathered, the wood is cut to length and hung to season for one to two years, allowing it to dry naturally.
  • Shaping & Smoothing: Knots and natural blemishes are preserved where they add character. The wood is then shaped by hand and smoothed through a progression of sandpapers.
  • Binding: Handles are bound in either waxed cotton or genuine leather, adding both comfort and beauty.
  • Sealing: Each wand is sealed with beeswax – often lavender-infused – to protect the wood and bring a subtle scent.
  • Final Touches: Crystals, charms, and spell jars are chosen and matched with the wand to enhance its energy.
  • Certification: Every wand comes with a certificate that explains the magical and symbolic properties of the wood used.

A Unique Connection

No two wands are ever the same. Each one carries the story of the land it came from, the tree it grew from, and the hands that shaped it. Matt’s work weaves together ancient tradition, deep respect for nature, and years of dedicated craftsmanship – creating wands that are both magical tools and works of art.

I really want a honeysuckle wand. I am fascinated by the story behind them. Can I pre- order?
