Ostara

The wheel turns again at Ostara and we move into spring. Now we can really see mother earth coming back to life. We feel the energy of re-birth, of blossoming and growth. It is re-energising after the long cold winter. 

Imbolc brought the promise of new life and re-growth, now we can see that promise begin to become a reality. Imbolc encouraged hope and inspiration. At Ostara that hope and inspiration turns to anticipation and expectation of what’s to come as we move through spring into summer. 

For me Imbolc was a time to focus on what I was inspired to bring into my life, what I want to grow, the seeds of inspiration were planted. At Ostara those seeds or ideas have developed into seedlings and are beginning to take shape. Those seedlings or ideas need to be cared for and tended to or they will die. 

Ostara is a reminder that in order to bring our ideas and dreams into reality we must tend to them, give them what they need to grow. We must take action and increase the momentum. We must draw on the energy of the season to re-energise us and our dreams. This re-energising helps us feel empowered and strong, ready to grow and take action.

Ostara being the spring equinox, means it is also a time of balance before the scales are tipped and we have more daylight hours. It is a good time to reflect on the balance you have in your life and seek balance within. Is there anything you feel you need to get rid of, such as bad habits or negative thoughts or unpleasant self talk, in order to bring in more positive energy. Do you need to re-connect with something that brought you joy but has been neglected recently because you have been over worked. 

There may still be some residual negative energy or physical clutter that needs to be cleared in order to make room for new growth. Now is the time to do that. Plan a Spring clean of your home and feel so much more energised, positive and prepared for the coming seasons.

Check in with yourself, is there any negative thoughts or feelings that may be holding you back and preventing you from believing in, growing and nurturing your dreams. If so it is time to bury those feelings in the earth and let them rot away, providing the nourishment that enables new growth.

Take practical steps to bring your ideas and dreams into being. Create a strategy, make a plan. Dreams and ideas need a strong foundation, strong roots. 

Simple Ostara Spell

Gather some old leaves, a pen and seeds or seedlings. Soil in garden or in a pot.

Dig a hole in the soil big enough for the leaves and the seeds or seedling.

Sit quietly and think about anything you still need to clear out of your life to make room for new growth, a habit you wish to get rid of, or thought patterns that are holding you back

Take a leaf to represent each thing you want to clear out of your life and write or draw it on the leaf.

Hold the leaf in your hand and focus on whatever it is you want gone, visualise it being transferred into the leaf. 

Say aloud or in your head something like this : 

‘At this time of renewal and rebirth it is time to let (whatever it is) go to make room for the things I will bring into my life. No longer will ………. hold me back from growing the positive things I so deserve.” 

When your ready place the leaves in the hole.

Take one seed or seedling to represent each new thing you wish to bring in to your life.

Hold the seed/seedling in your hand and focus on the positive thing you want to bring in to your life. Visualise it growing and becoming stronger as the seedling grows.

Say aloud or in your head something like this:

 ‘ At this time of renewal and rebirth I plant this seedling to represent (whatever it is) just as this seedling will grow so will ……………… nourished by the things I no longer need in my life. “

When your ready place it in the hole and cover with earth.

As you provide your seedling with all it requires to grow let it be a reminder to feed and tend to your personal goals in order for them to flourish and grow strong. 

Practical everyday magickal things you can do to connect with and encourage the energy of Ostara

• Bring fresh spring flowers in to the home such as daffodils
• Open your window to let in some fresh spring air
• Place a cleansing crystal such as selenite in the home to keep the energies clear and fresh
• Use floral scents in you wax burner or incense such as Jasmine
• Shower and bathe using energising scented soap, bath bombs or bath salts
• Carry energising crystals such as citrine, yellow jasper and tigers eye
• Carry crystals that are connected to the earth and encourage growth such as green moss agate 
• Hang sun catchers at your windows to bring in the vibrant energy of the sun
